Court Panel Rules No Association Between Autism and Vaccines

On February 12, 2009, the United States Court of Federal Claims (the 'Special Masters Court') ruled against compensation from the Vaccine Injury Compensation Fund for children with autism. The court ruled that scientific evidence "is overwhelmingly contrary" to the theory that the MMR vaccine and thimerosal are linked to autism. After the ruling, officials from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released a statement, saying
"Hopefully, the determination by the special masters will help reassure parents that vaccines do not cause autism."

We at River Valley Pediatrics were very happy to see this ruling, as it supports all of the scientific evidence on the matter and helps to address parents' concerns and prove the safety of our vaccines. We look forward to further research into the causes of autism and full supportive services for parents and children coping with autism.
